1947: Degree in Medicine and Surgery, State University of Milan, Italy, with a specialization in Neurophysiology (highest possible marks: 110, with honors); guiding professor: Prof. Rodolfo Margaria
1948-1953: Assistant in Human Physiology, State University of Milan, under the direction of Prof. R. Margaria. Published first research in physiology in the Acts of the renowned Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, Rome
1954: Degree, specialization in Anesthesiology, State University of Milan
1956: Director of Anesthesiology, Istituti Clinici di Perfezionamento di Milano (ICP), a system of 12 public hospitals and clinics (title transformed into “Chief,” see 1967)
1960: Ph.D. degree, Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (State University of Milan)
