Dr. Michael A. Perelman is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Reproductive Medicine, and Urology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is the Co-Director of the Human Sexuality Program, Payne Whitney Clinic of the New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, founded by his late mentor Dr. Helen Kaplan.

A National Institute of Health Fellow, he received his Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from Columbia University, writing Columbia’s first sex therapy dissertation. Dr. Perelman was Chief Intern in Medical Psychology at Duke University Medical Center and subsequently a Postdoctoral Fellow at NY Cornell Medical Center’s Human Sexuality Program.

Dr. Perelman has served on several professional society boards of directors and is currently the President-Elect of The Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR). He was elected a Fellow of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA). He is a member of over twenty-five other professional associations including the American Urological Association (appointed to the AUA’s Sexual Function Advisory Council), the International Academy of Sex Researchers (IASR), the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), the International Society for Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex (SSSS).

Dr. Perelman maintains an independent practice in Manhattan, specializing in sex and marital therapy, and is certified by New York State and listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certify him as a sex therapy diplomate, supervisor, sex educator, and sex counselor.

Dr. Perelman is on the Board of Directors, a consulting editor and/or reviewer for many journals, including: Journal of Sexual Medicine, British Journal of Urology International, Current Sexual Health Reports, International Journal of Impotence Research, Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, Journal of Urology, Urology; and is appointed to the Communications Committee of the ISSM. He has published numerous peer reviewed journal articles, abstracts, posters, chapters in sexual medicine texts and delivered over 250 invited presentations. Dr. Perelman consults to industry, conducting clinical trials, serving on advisory boards and speakers’ bureaus. Additionally, his work in sex and marital therapy is often featured in the media.
